Maison Willert is a delightful 19th century stone house in the picturesque village of Lescun. Several writers and artists have stayed here and been inspired by the surrounding landscape.
100 years ago this was a two storey building, with room for winter hay to feed the livestock that would have provided central heating for the occupants.
Today, Maison Willert is spread over three floors, and the animals have been exchanged for a modern heating system. Nevertheless, two traditional hearths have been retained for visitors who choose to watch the roaring fire in winter instead of the satellite television.
“The fittings and general arrangement inside the house are superb. The ground floor room where the animals originally overwintered has been magically converted into an excellent kitchen with stunning views across a deep valley to the mountains beyond.”
If you enjoy cooking, you’ll love the fitted kitchen and attendant dining room. (If your idea of a holiday is an untouched stove, fear not; there are several excellent restaurants in the area, including one that’s a five minute stroll from the front door).
The kitchen is at the heart of Maison Willert. A separate sitting room on the first floor provides a sanctuary for reading, writing and contemplation.
Four bedrooms and two bathrooms are spread across the first and second floors, providing plenty of privacy for up to eight people. Single beds in two rooms provide accommodation for young children. A floorplan shows the layout of rooms.
“When we walked through the door we thought, ‘Wow! It’s just like a home from home.’ The views from every window are fantastic.”

How do you like your steak cooked? On summer nights, fire up the barbecue on the south-facing terrace as the sun goes down.
In winter, curl up inside with your favourite book or one from the bookshelves and watch the snow settle on the neighbouring mountains.
We apologise, but smoking inside Maison Willert is not possible. The only pets we are able to accommodate are guide dogs.
When it’s time to leave Lescun, the airports at Toulouse, Pau, Lourdes, Biarritz, Bordeaux and Saragossa are all between 90 minutes and three hours’ drive away.
